Nordenia

"Thanks to the FAMM we have saved a lot costs"
This explained Joachim Block, technical director at Nordenia in Halle, Germany.
Block: "AV Flexologic was anyway for the whole Nordenia group our main supplier of flexo plate mounting machines and our cooperation with AV Flexologic has always been optimal.
In our view we consider this manufacturer of flexo plate mounting machines as the market leader in this field and are therefore very confident in their products. In the year 2008 we were looking for a new mounting machine and after comparison with mounting machines from other suppliers, we have made a decision to do business with AV Flexologic again. Especially if you have built up a good relationship for many years with your supplier, you should not just change suppliers. And if you still want to modernize your technology, then you look for the best technological solutions and the innovative and unique technology of the automatic FAMM fit perfectly with our goals. A reference visit to Elopak in the Netherlands, where the FAMM is already in production, has convinced us and we have ordered the first FAMM in Europe for application in flexible packaging printing. Since November 2008 we have this automatic mounting machine to full satisfaction in use."
Nordenia in Halle in Germany is seen as a leading flexo printing company with 4 F+K machines in three shifts, printing films for food and non-food flexible packaging. In 2002 they have invested in a new Mount-O-Matic 2000 MKII as an extension of their existing MOM of an earlier generation. This plant in Halle mounts over 8000 print jobs a year on sleeves and because of a capacity problem Nordenia was looking in 2008 for a new mounting machine. Not to expand, but to replace their oldest mounting machine. The reason why Nordenia has chosen for the FAMM were based on three facts: they want a faster turnaround time, better quality and to save money.
Block: "Our experience from the beginning point the FAMM is much faster in use in comparison to our existing MOM 2000 and that has led that 80% of all our print jobs are mounted on the FAMM. And that with one operator per shift. Thanks to the fully automatic system of the FAMM, the mounting time of a sleeve takes at most 5 minutes. The flexo plates, mounted through the FAMM show a great quality in print results: the register is always perfect. After the mounting process, we don't need to apply corrections and even none finishing activities. Whether the flexo plates are mounted on a Monday morning or Friday night, we see absolutely no difference in quality. The cost savings that we have envisioned, with the installation of the FAMM, have been fully reflected. We need fewer operators, operation is simpler than we thought. It is all of us become more efficient and a much shorter turnaround. We can much more adequately respond to customers who would like to see a faster delivery time than before. On regular base we also use ready-made seamless sleeves, but our post calculation shows us that mounted flexo plates by using our own FAMM in costs lower are than the purchase of the ready-made sleeves. We have made a decision to keep the use of these kind of sleeves on a low ebb and to prefer our own mounted flexo plates."
For the engineers at AV Flexologic it was a challenge to do the first installation of this automatic mounting machine for a customer who is printing flexible packaging.
Block: "We had a great need for modernization and you know when you invest in the latest technology into your printing company you are likely to encounter problems.
AV Flexologic has in advance prevented that also in candor. In this project, you have to cooperate as partners. We did it, but also the good work of the engineers of AV Flexologic has led that we are particularly pleased with the FAMM and the results achieved."

Exopack
Exopack is using several mounting machines of AV Flexologic. The company is still very satisfied with the equipment.
Oerlemans Packaging

Oerlemans Packaging is pleased to tell everybody that they are very happy with their two Mount-O-Matic 1500 flexo plate mounting machines.
Some people say, the Mount-O-Matic of AV Flexologic is the Ferrari under the mounting machines for flexo plates. Right or not, the Mount-O-Matic is the undisputed market leader in this field. The quality and service of AV Flexologic is never a discussion, always perfect. Once a Mount-O-Matic, always a Mount-O-Matic is a historical fact by many flexo printing companies all around the world.
"We mount an extreme amount of flexo plates for about 8500 six-color print jobs per year, using two Mount-O-Matic's (MOM's) from AV Flexologic. Malfunction of these mounting machines? Actually, never!" says Jan Sweens.
Since 1995, Sweens works at Oerlemans Packaging in Giessen, The Netherlands as chief of the flexo printing department and was very directly involved in purchasing their first MOM 1500 MKII in 1997.
Sweens: "Before that time period we were mounting our flexo plates on a Bieffebi mounting machine with an old-fashioned mirror system. Actually the Bieffebi equipment was functioning pretty well, but the human eye was much too often an uncertain factor when it came to precision and efficiency.
During those years, the number of our printing presses in our company was growing and we were forced to look for an extra mounting machine to extend our capacity.
We were looking for a mounting machine that was able to mount a high number of flexo plates on sleeves and could handle very fast change over times. The high tech computerization of the MOM was for us one of the most important reasons to choose for this type of mounting machine in 1997.
Oerlemans Packaging Group consists in the Netherlands of four subsidiaries: Oerlemans Plastics in Genderen, Plast Hill in Hillegom, Perfon in Goor and OPI in Oosterwolde. The meeting with Jan Sweens for this interview took place in their plant Giessen. On this location you will find a 3 acre big production hall with 6 big sized flexo printing machines for the printing of film for flexible packaging purposes. These printed films are in their own converting section processed to any kind of bags, sheets and many other products. Oerlemans supplies these products in more than 30 countries in the sectors of agriculture, industry and wholesale packaging. The strength of Oerlemans Packaging was that it could grow into a company with 300 employees due to their not ceasing struggle to achieve the highest quality all the time. Therefore, Oerlemans is using high qualified flexo printing presses and is training motivated operators to achieve the highest standards.
Sweens: "When we first started with the Mount-O-Matic machine in 1997, it has indeed shown us that this type of mounting machine fully corresponded to what the sales people of AV Flexologic promised us in terms of accuracy and capacity. I immediately saw the usefulness of working with micro-dots. A strange phenomenon in that period, which initially many people had their doubts doubts about. From the beginning I was convinced that such application with the little dots on the flexo plate a huge improvement in this type of mounting technology would be. Today, mounting technology is unimaginable without micro-dots and micro dots are used throughout the world."
In 2007 Oerlemans Packaging installed a new WH Novoflex flexo printing machine and a logical consequence was that Oerlemans ordered a simultaneous second Mount-O-Matic 1500 at AV Flexologic, actually a DD type mounting machine of which, in the construction, is identical to their first MKII.
However, the functionality of the DD has been modernized in terms of ease of operating, speed and change over times. The first supplied Mount-O-Matic 1500 MKII, has had an MS-DOS driven system and the air cylinder was still gear driven. The second delivered 1500 DD has a gearless drive, colour cameras, overlay, flat monitors and Windows-based software with much more possibilities. A Direct Drive machine like the 1500 DD has the advantage that it has no gear drive so you can be sure that the clearance of the shaft is pushed. It also works faster to exchange just sleeves instead of the heavier air cylinders operated at a MKII to take in and out of the mounting machine. It is important to mention that the modern DD mounting machines have got improvements in the pressure roll and the automatic mounting table. Despite these important differences in technique, AV Flexologic ensured that both Mount-O-Matics at Oerlemans could be fitted with a single software package that runs under Windows.
In this way, Oerlemans now has one software package for both mounting machines to control, regardless in which of the two mounting machines the data is imported and used. During the printing process it can happen with a flexo plate that something goes wrong, causing the need to act quickly to keep the down time of the press as short as possible. Thanks to software adaptation for both mounting machines, Oerlemans can now use the mounting machine that is free at any moment for remounting the flexo plates. Now, the turnaround time is much faster than before for new and repeat jobs, even for remounting jobs.
On both mounting machines, the operator enters data for a job and can call this data up at any subsequent time. This increases the efficiency, productivity and flexibility considerably. For the 6 flexo printing presses in 3 shifts, the operators can easily handle all mounting jobs on the two Mount-O-Matics.
Sweens: "For 10 years difference in time between the first and second installation of our two Mount-O-Matic's, we don't find any differences in quality and accuracy of the both machines. We like the speed and efficiency of the Mount-O-Matics very much. Our first Mount-O-Matic is as stable and accurate as it was in the beginning, even after 13 years of intensive use. Actually, we have never had trouble on either mounting machine, except when we caused it ourselves. We then call to request the help of AV Flexologic, and we are very pleased by the way they help us. We view the engineers of AV Flexologic as real professionals, and are very happy with the guidance and training given. Actually I'm also a little proud of the fact that the Mount-O-Matic is of Dutch origin."
